Demand for New Zealand bees to pollinate horticultural and agricultural crops overseas is high.
National Beekeepers Association CEO Jim Edwards says around 30,000 kilograms of live bees are exported each year.
Despite finding their way into the European Union, Uganda’s honey exports have been falling off and Kampala remains at the bottom of the only four African countries that are eligible to export to the EU.

Honey exports from Brazil have bounced back from the falling figures observed in July and August this year. The result for the month of September reached US$ 4.9 million. The volume is four times greater than that seen in the same period in 2007 (US$ 1.09 million).
With the honey production in the Kashmir valley showing considerable surge, the authorities have set the target for honey export for 2009-10 to 250 metric tonnes, an official spokesman said on Sunday.

Honey exports from Brazil totaled US$ 18.2 million in the first half of 2008, representing growth of 70% over the same period last year. The sum placed Brazil in the fifth position in the wortld exporter ranking. The figures were disclosed last Friday, September 12, by the Sectoral Chamber for the Honey Production Chain.
